The Territorial is a mid-length that retains speed and more importantly maneuverability that tends to vanish as you begin stretching lengths in order to catch more waves. More tail rocker and lower rails go a long way facilitating this endeavor. Moreover, quad fins add to this process also, and if it is more pivot you want a 2+1 fin set will deliver this in spades. The term Territorial simply suggests riding this model will help you protect your turf without giving up your surfing prowess.
PLAN SHAPE
Like most mid-lengths the Territorial is forward centric mainly to facilitate early entry, but it also gives one the opportunity to lower the nose lift as it becomes wider. The inclusion of the cathedral hull also encourages this design facet even more! Mid lengths are longish boards we know, so what is the easiest tail shape to prize left and right? Yes, the round tail and here is another facet that helps keep this longer board turning.
BOTTOM SHAPE
This model being wide-ish in nature needs a longish tail vee to help encourage it to rail where the round tail can then take over the pivot. A subtle concave through the center running into the cathedral hull under the nose all contributing to increased paddle under the chest. Basically saying that when riding forward on the board you are gonna be moving as this is where the accelerator is. In quad mode you will not be too far forward of the steering wheel and likewise in 2+1 mode with the alpha fin set forward again, you will be close to the G spot.
ROCKER
Perhaps the rocker is the prime component for this board to feel like it is riding shorter. To fight the front heaviness and extra length issue of a mid length adding extra tail rocker goes close to righting the wrongs, so to speak! Flattish up front for paddle and extra curve in the back half for extra east west is the thinking.
RAILS
This model particularly does not need a battle in order to sink the rail. So, the thinking is to excessively roll the deck down to a very low rail that will immerse easily and quickly. This in effect makes the board feel shorter. You have to do everything to fight the front heaviness of longer wide nose surfboards.
FINS
This model is designed to be ridden as a 2+1 or a quad. In 2+1 mode choices are large alpha and very small side bights and, in this mode, the larger center fin would sit forward in the box. Or using larger side bights and a smaller center fin moved back somewhat. The quad mode makes sure you are not stuck on the tail with the fins all set forward. Since there is no center fin in play in this mode with all the fins on rail they can be moved forward without any slide.
