TWINZER MARK TWO

Since I have been into my own concept of the Twinzaa the last 8 years and also in response to a surge of interest in the older Twinzer concept of late I have decided to make a more conventional Twinzer for the current market that is less “out there” than my previous design, although having said that I still believe my current Twinzaa design is the best board I have ever designed to date..! So, I have taken a more palatable market approach with this model, but what I have learnt with my previous model has in a small way seeped into this design none the less. Lythe to just design a standard Twinzer I guess- it’s just not in my DNA to do so. I have learnt so much from my current Twinzaa having followed over 200 customers of this design for their honest and brutal feedback.

PLANSHAPE

First of all, I have deleted the flyer because the fin cluster is tighter and does not need the extra release point just so it can drive better enhancing the reach. It is still a forward centric plan shape like all Twinnies should be in respect to their DNA. Not forgetting a round tail Twinny is the loosest concept currently known to man! Again, it has a wide girth like it should since it will be so easy to get on rail anyway.

BOTTOM SHAPE

Compared with its cousin the cathedral hull runs much longer almost two thirds of the boards length then dives into a deep release vee so it can sit down and drive through turns. The hull causes so much lift particularly being this long so the vee is deeper so it does not skip around off the tail when the pressure is on.

ROCKER and RAIL

Being basically a twin fin and particularly a round tail I have flattened the tail rocker a tad more so it retains some reach. The nose lift is also flattish since it has the lift of the cathedral hull. Being such an easy design to turn keeping a thicker rail is fundamental in enhancing drive in what you could call a very pivotal concept.

FINS

This is where the big changes occur c/f the original Twinzaa. This new more commercial design is not as radical and the fin sets are more moderately positioned and more importantly do not need the radical tilted Hornet fins that HAD to go with its older brother. Having said that there is still a difference with fin positions on this model c/f the standard twinzer you see coming back on to the market. The alpha twin fin is set further in from the rail that the conventional Twin fin positions or Twinzers positions, but not as far as my hard core Twinzaa model since the fin I have chosen for this new model does not have the excess lean of the Hornets. The fin for this does have more lean than a normal twin fin and enough to comfortably place these fins in from the rail an inch more than the norm. This allows me to keep these fins more parallel to the stringer, but not as much as the Hornets which are almost parallel because they lean out so much. This placement will not reduce face hold but will help the heel and toe have more sway with quicker rail to rail transitions.

All in all the Twinzer MK2 will be still genetically a Twin Fin, but equipped with more bight, a tad more reach and even more speed to burn !
