INTRO
Yes, it’s raining Twins. Perhaps the mid length craze caused by aging surfers’ efforts to stay relevant has kicked it all off. Nevertheless, the Whippet Twin is unapologetic for its purpose and is true to this cause i.e. longer looser surfboard designs that aging punters can actually rip the bag on.!
PLAN SHAPE
The Whippet is of course forward centric, but it is not over the top so it has a good swing rate for a longer board. In addition, the round tail helps this cause as well. In the past most Twin Fins have been strictly swallow tails because they bight so well, but that was in the day where Twin Fin designs were perceived to be only short boards in smaller waves. Now days the Twinny design is finding itself a useful board in the Mid Length market as aspirants are getting older.
BOTTOM SHAPE
The Whippet has inherited the heralded cathedral hull stretched through three quarters of the length of the board punctuated only in the last quarter by a heavy vee in which four channels have been dug through and out the end. This gives the board a little more grip at the tail end, in a way compensating for a centre fin if you will.
ROCKER + RAILS
As per normal the rockers are quite low being a Twin Fin design and not to mention the lift mechanism of the cathedral hull enables the lift and frees up the straighter rail line from catching. Rail wise the Whippet has a boxy rail for release but not too thick where at length it will be not too hard to keep on rail when driving.
