The Mid length notion is a wide characterization of boards that first and foremost must paddle well and a close second must perform well! Big ask...? As a result, this genre has a litany of suggested models, and all relevant I might say. The Snub is a mild form of a mid-length in that it is not super wide in the nose and not super long in that 7.0 is the longest suggested.
PLANSHAPE
The Snub is a bet each way in that it is wider in the nose than a normal longer surfboard, but still pulled in enough to be less nose heavy and still Whipp able from rail to rail since it is narrower than most mid lengths in the nose. The tail area is also intelligently pulled in to facilitate moving the 5 fin sets further forward to encourage a more forward sweet spot helping to make the board feel shorter than it really is.
ROCKER AND BOTTOM
The rocker of this board is best described as a stretched out 3 stage rocker, meaning it has some late nose and tail flip, but pretty flat through the guts which gives it some run. The bottom shape is souped up with a single double concave right through, not unlike the modern high performance thrusters. This obviously fires up the performance and run speed but still has the safety of a wider nose, not to mention additional paddle.
RAILS
With a board like this a medium thickness rail is the way to go. Forgiveness, forgiveness I say particularly for a model that is bound to attract a mid-range talented cliental or indeed guys who are in the downsize direction.
FINS
The whole fin sets have been pushed an inch further forward forcing the surfer to operate further forward. You can surf this with a bigger centre fin and smaller side bights, normal thruster fins or indeed as a quad particularly in bigger waves with long walls.. The pulled in tail area facilitates all modes
